Lyrics

She Was Born

She was born singing to the sun
And the child soon knew what power she had won
To hear her sing they promised her the world
And one by one she made them all her own

Chorus:

And they said, “Oh little one, please sing your lullaby
The world is sad, but you’ve no need to cry
A gift you have and some day you will find
That for a song it will all be yours in time.”

Well the child, a woman soon became
And all too soon she played a woman’s game
And for a song the men bowed at her feet
To hear the sound of a lover soft and sweet.

And they said, “Oh lady sing your love song for me
I know you’ll leave, as you do what you please
But just for me, sing it once more tonight.
Come be my love, and it will be alright. “

Somehow the lullabies and love songs disappeared
And the child and woman turned within
The men all vanished ‘cause she wouldn’t sing her song
And the child she cried for all the rights that turned out wrong.

And she cried, “Oh sing a song of a child and let me be
Still too young and innocent to see
Just how quickly they tarnish and they fade
For I’m a child and I want to stay this way

Just sing a song of a child and let me be
Still too young and innocent to see
Just how quickly they tarnish and they fade
For I’m a child and I want to stay this way
