About the Songwriters

PJ Brunson writes country, folk, and Americana songs of love and life. She frequently performs around the Carolinas and beyond. She has placed in national and regional songwriting competitions and opened for the likes of Nanci Griffith and Lyle Lovett. PJ has released two original albums, the first, “Come Hell or High Water”, was co-written with Rock Hill’s Jim Brindle. She also performs as half of the new age piano & violin duo, Ananda, with violinist Laurie Neal. They have released two albums of original instrumentals and one Christmas CD.

Allen Hayes fell in love with the guitar at an early age. With the Beatles, John Denver, Jim Croce, and Don McLean as his role models, he began writing songs in high school. His approach to songwriting is eclectic and takes a slice-of-life approach to telling stories. His songs can be classified as folk, country and Americana, with a little jazz and blues thrown in. Allen has performed with various folk groups through the years. He has a self-released CD called “Landfall”, which has received critical acclaim from listeners and industry insiders alike.

Steve Simpson has been writing songs as a hobby for 25 years and performs them regularly at acoustic music venues in the Carolinas. He has won numerous songwriting awards and competitions over the years. In 2006 he released his first CD, "Better Late," in 2013 he released his second CD, "Dusty Lawn Chairs," and in 2021 he released his third CD, “The Creek.” Steve is the coordinator of Southern Songwriters Association. Carolina Brew Supply features some of the Carolina's best songwriters in a Nashville Bluebird style round. May's showcase will feature Randy Franklin and Diane Marie. Join us for a great evening of original music in a listening room setting. They brew their own amazing beers and wines and offer tasty food options. They teach classes and sell supplies for starting your own home beer and wine-making projects. They also host special events including live music. Showtime is 6:30-8:30 PM, and the event is free.

About the Songwriters

Diane Marie Coll is originally from Chicago and grew up on a steady, eclectic diet of 70’s AM/FM radio. In the early 90s, she wound her way to Georgia to soak up the thriving music scenes in Athens and Atlanta and currently resides in the Atlanta area, where she works as a mental health therapist. Music has always been her therapy and, as a lifelong music lover, she honors the sacred space between performer and listener. Her first solo album “Happy Fish (and Other Delights)” received solid airplay on various folk/indie stations. Her current release is a 4-song ukulele-inspired EP, “Into the Fire” and, pre-production has begun for another full-length album. Randy Franklin is an award-winning singer-songwriter from Charlotte NC. Touring and recording for over four decades, he has released 8 albums of original music, shared the stage with fellow artists such as Jill Sobule, Don Dixon, Mitch Easter, Crisis, and The Spongetones. He currently tours with his band Randy Franklin & The Sardines, who were recently named Best Americana Band by the Queen City Music Awards. For more info: www.randyfranklinmusic.com .

Nancy Moore will open the show and debut her first EP, entitled Tumbled, which will be released this month. The EP features six original Americana and rock songs. She is a Charlotte, NC-based independent songwriter-performer.

Laurie and I are honored to be included once again on the Women of Substance Podcast. Check out some amazing female artists and enjoy songs celebrating Motherhood. Our song, Angelica, will air on Friday May 12th. I composed this song for my dear stepmother, Annie. She was an amazing musician in her own right, and a sweet, gentle soul who left us too soon.

Harris Teeter's Wine Bars are the new local "Cheers". It's the place where locals gather to catch up and take a break while also getting their grocery shopping done. I am honored to share the stage with some of York County's finest at the Dean Marsh Open Air Stage at Allison Creek Presbyterian Church. Please gather your family and friends and enjoy an early evening with Ansel Couch, Marcy Little, me and my friends Jessie Lynn and Laurie Neal. The variety of styles will make for a pleasant evening for all ages under the stars. This is a fundraiser for Common Ground so they can continue their important community work. About the Musicians

Ansel Couch is a passionate and dedicated musician and a staple in the local music scene for years. Whether he’s performing live, recording in the studio, songwriting or just learning new songs, it’s obvious that he loves music. Ansel grew up in what he believes to be the best music generation ever! Even though he plays music that appeals to all age groups, he loves the music from the 60's and 70's. He is a consummate musician, with a velvet voice and a loveable persona. Ansel has been a popular fixture in the York County area for decades.

Marcy Little is a home-grown Carolina girl with a Rock n’ Roll flare. She delivers all genres from Classic Rock to Sultry Oldies and Hits from today with her soulful style. Marcy has been described as “a little powder keg of a woman” whose “voice has the pure tone and power of Christina Aguilera, but with a rock and roll edge.” Marcy will make you want to dance and sing along.

PJ Brunson is an award-winning singer-songwriter and musician who has performed around the area ever since her Winthrop days. Her versatile brand of acoustic music spans multiple genres and appeals to audiences of all ages. She performs her original songs and beloved cover tunes with a silky-smooth alto voice and unique finger-picking style. PJ will be joined on several songs by her Ananda Duo partner, Laurie Neal on vocals and violin, and York native Jessie Lynn on vocals.

Laurie Neal is a well-known local classical musician and one-half of the piano and violin duo Ananda with PJ. She is a popular wedding and church musician. She also performed with her husband Dennis Neal in their 60’s, 70’s and 80’s rock and roll band, The NowThings. Laurie is a talented multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and composer.

Jessie Lynn is a singer/songwriter from York. She has performed in the Carolinas for years, starting on the Possum Holler stage as a teenager. After graduating from Furman University with a degree in music, she lived in Shanghai, China singing jazz and blues at The Cotton Club. She was the lead singer for Remedy Hollow, performing hits from the 60’s to today, and their own original songs. You can hear Jessie’s harmonies on several songs on PJ’s last album, “Home to Me”. She also sang lead on multiple tracks for the alternative band, Bad Alchemy, whose CD sold from the states to Japan.
